So it comes as no surprise that so many have made cryotherapy treatments a core component of their routine. After all, cryotherapy has been linked to increased blood circulation, an enhanced immune system, decreased fatigue, accelerated injury recovery, improved sleep patterns and even an elevated sense of cognitive abilities – benefits that could propel anyone to the next level, including Tony Robbins.

Tony recently sat down with Mark Murdock, Managing Partner of CryoUSA, to discuss just why cryotherapy has become such an integral strategy for recovery, and what other cutting-edge technology is helping him stay in peak physical condition:


The cryotherapy process revolves around spending 3 minutes at subzero temperatures starting at -166° F to -320° F. The body’s natural response to extreme cold is to constrict peripheral tissues and force blood to the core to protect your core temperature. Constriction is the body’s natural filtration process to remove toxins from the peripheral tissues. After the cold exposure, the body begins to send blood back to the peripheral tissues and replenish them with the return of blood flow. This is how the body allows itself to recover, not just from stress, but from everyday life. In short, it’s all about removing, replenishing and recovering.

Who uses it: Professional sports teams (NBA, NFL, MLB, NHL), NCAA schools, the Nike Oregon Project on Nike campus, and the new UFC training and recovery center have all integrated cryotherapy into their conditioning practices. And celebrities like Kevin Hart, Daniel Craig and Demi Moore have been leveraging the massive benefits you can get in just minutes to take their physical bodies to the next level.

Recommended frequency: Generally about 2-3 times a week

General price range: The cost is about $40 to $75 per session.


Tony also utilizes PBMT to accelerate his recovery. The process revolves around the application of red and near-infrared light to tissues where there is degeneration or injury, to improve, repair and reduce inflammation and pain. It works on a cellular level by reducing oxidative stress (free radicals) – the underlying trigger for most diseases and degenerative conditions, and a key component in the inflammatory phase of acute and chronic injuries. PBMT helps to produce analgesia and to increase adenosine triphosphate (ATP) which is what every cell in the human body uses for energy. In short, it’s all about reducing oxidative stress, increasing ATP and producing analgesia.

General price range: The LED bed runs around $40 to $75 per session, while the hand-held laser is around $55 per 30-minute session.


Sequential Pulse Technology is massage compression combining three distinct massage techniques – pulsing, gradient hold and distal release – to accelerate the body’s recovery process. It causes the body’s lymphatic system to pump fluid away from the extremities and tissues and moves blood back to them. When using this procedure, you will use comfortable compression sleeves that enclose legs, arms and shoulders, and the lower back and hips. Then you will undergo a deep, relaxing massage and rolling sensation that aids in recovery from training, competition and injury. In short, it’s all about tissue compression that activates and pumps the lymphatic drainage.

Who uses it: Every NBA, NFL and NHL team, and all but 2 MLB teams. Most Division 1 universities, professional runners and professional triathletes use this procedure as well. Celebrities like Zac Efron and Sinbad use this as well.

What it’s best for: It’s best for recovery in the arms, legs and the lower back and hips region.

Recommended frequency: 2 to 3 times per week.

General price range: It runs about $20 per 30 minute session.
